An environmental technology enterprise located in Southeast Asia specializes in the re-refining of waste lubricants and industrial oils, converting them into base oils and industrial fuels.

In the petroleum re-refining process, the customer faces the following technical bottlenecks:

Extreme condition challenges: Process oil temperatures are high and contain acidic substances, causing traditional polymer filter cartridges to undergo thermal deformation or chemical degradation.

Cartridge prone to clogging: Waste oil contains large amounts of carbon black, metal powder, and polymer coke, and traditional cartridges can only maintain operation for a few hours at 20 m³/h flow rate before being sealed shut.

High operating costs: Frequent replacement of disposable filter cartridges generates large amounts of waste, and cartridge procurement costs are high.

Downstream process damage: If front-end filtration is incomplete, solid particles entering hydrogenation or refining reactors will cause catalyst poisoning and failure.

🛠️ Solution

For the demanding re-refining environment, the customer selected the JY-DX40-W wedge wire precision filtration system:

Wedge wire technology: Using V-shaped stainless steel wedge wire welding technology, with controllable gap precision (25–100 μm), featuring a "narrow outside, wide inside" structure that resists clogging and can restore flux through backwashing. Backwashing requires supporting clean media (such as clean oil or steam) and a waste liquid collection system.

All-stainless-steel construction: Overall using SS316L material, capable of withstanding high-temperature impact and chemical corrosion in the re-refining process. Pitting corrosion risk must be evaluated under chlorine-containing conditions.

Multi-stage deployment: Wedge wire filters with different gap precisions are configured at different process stages, achieving gradient purification from coarse to fine filtration.

📈 Results

By deploying the JY-DX40-W wedge wire precision filtration system, the re-refining plant reduced frequent shutdowns for cartridge replacement. The wedge wire cartridges demonstrated good durability, maintaining a stable 20 m³/h treatment rate even when processing waste oil with heavy sediment loads. Since cartridges can be backwashed and reused, consumable costs were significantly reduced and the maintenance workload decreased by approximately 90%.
