Stage 1 · Customer Problem

📋 Customer Problem

A large state-owned farm practicing modern large-scale cropping depends heavily on tractors and combine harvesters. Because fuel is hauled to the field and used on the spot, there is no time for impurities and water to settle — leaving precision fuel systems fed with severely contaminated diesel:

Insufficient Settling Time

Fuel is used as soon as it is delivered to the field, with no settling period. Both particulate contamination and free-water content far exceed acceptable limits before the fuel ever reaches an engine.

⚙️

HP Pump Plunger Wear & Seizure

Fine hard particles and free water caused early abrasive wear and sintering (scuffing) of high-pressure fuel-pump plungers and injector couples, shortening the life of these expensive precision components.

📉

Engine Power Drop

Contaminated fuel degraded injection precision and combustion efficiency, producing a noticeable loss of power across the tractor and combine fleet during field operations.

📄

Paper Filters Ineffective

Operators had strung multiple paper filter elements in series along the fuel line, but paper could neither reach 2 μm nominal precision nor remove free water — frequent clogging with no real protection.

Stage 2 · Fuel Analysis · NEW

🔬 Fuel Analysis

Fuel samples taken from field-delivered diesel (used immediately, no settling) confirmed heavy combined contamination by silt, rust and free water — far beyond what paper filters could handle:

MetricBefore TreatmentAfter TreatmentImprovement
ISO 4406 Cleanliness~24/22/1914/12/9~10 levels ↑
Free Water (ppm)~300≤5095% separated
Visual AppearanceCloudy, visible impuritiesClear, bright
TAN (mgKOH/g)~0.40~0.15~63% ↓
Particle CompositionLarge amounts of silt & rustTraceEliminated

Values are representative of in-field direct-refueling conditions (fuel used immediately after delivery, no settling, high silt/rust and free-water loads). The dramatic ISO and water improvements reflect the JY-219A's 2 μm nominal pore geometry combined with 95% efficient water separation in a single pass.

Stage 3 · Solution

🛠️ Solution & System Configuration

Jingyuan supplied the JY-219A diesel polisher, installed on-board in the engine fuel lines of the farm's tractors and combine harvesters. Its 2 μm nominal precision and 95% water-separation rate achieve impurity and water removal in a single pass — purpose-built for harsh in-field refueling conditions:

Model
JY-219A Diesel Polisher
Flow Rate
20–40 L/min (single machine)
Membrane
Polymer Rigid Composite, 2 μm nominal
β Value

Operating Pressure

Installation
On-board, in engine fuel line
Water Separation
95% efficient oleophilic-hydrophobic separation
Filter Element
Large-area cleanable design
Regeneration
Gas-pulse regeneration (brief 5-15 min safety pause)
Adaptation
Field-condition ruggedized for tractors & combines

Key design decisions: Because field-delivered diesel carries silt, rust and free water simultaneously, the solution had to remove both in a single stage. The 2 μm nominal membrane captures hard particulates that abrade plungers, while the 95% water-separation rate strips free water that causes corrosion and microbial growth. The large-area cleanable element replaces stringed paper cartridges entirely — no more consumable procurement, no more clogging-driven downtime during critical field operations.

After rolling out the JY-219A across the farm's tractors and combine harvesters, early wear and seizure of high-pressure pump plungers and injector couples were thoroughly eliminated, and engine power was restored. The farm retired its stringed paper filters entirely in favor of the repeatedly cleanable large-area membrane element — a fundamental resolution of the fleet's long-standing fuel-purification problem.

💡 Lessons Learned

Key Success Factor

The combination of 2 μm nominal precision and 95% water separation in a single pass is the core advancement. In-field direct refueling delivers fuel carrying heavy particulate (silt, rust) and high free-water loads simultaneously; only a membrane that removes both in one stage can protect precision high-pressure fuel components under such conditions.

⚠️

Common Pitfall

Stringing multiple paper filter elements in series cannot reach 2 μm nominal precision, nor does it remove free water. Paper elements clog rapidly under field contamination loads and provide a false sense of protection — the result was continued plunger wear and seizure despite the supposedly "multi-stage" filter setup.

🔄

Replication Advice

Directly applicable to all in-field direct refueling scenarios — farms, construction sites, and any operation where fuel is used immediately after delivery without adequate settling. The on-board JY-219A with its large-area cleanable element suits tractors, combine harvesters and self-propelled agricultural machinery of comparable flow rates, and is recommended for adoption wherever field fuel quality cannot be guaranteed.

Customer feedback

Fuel is often used right as it is hauled over — there isn't enough settling time, so impurities and water are severely over the limit. In the past, operators strung multiple paper filters together in the fuel line, but it still couldn't meet the requirement. The Jingyuan JY-219A uses 2 μm precision with a 95% water-separation rate, achieving impurity and water filtration in a single pass. Since we promoted its use on our farm's tractors and combine harvesters, it has been well received by users and has fundamentally solved the fuel-purification problem for our machines. We recommend that operators adopt and promote it as soon as possible.
